MY SERVICES

get to know

Great ideas need a great strategy to bring them to life. Many organizations and leaders have valuable work that they want to share with the world, but they may not have the necessary strategy in place for getting their messages out and connecting with their key audiences. I can help you think through and craft a communications strategy that helps you outline your goals and objectives, core audiences, key messages, strategies, and tactics so that your story gets told and the people you want to share it with actually hear it.

LET'S TALK ABOUT

BUILDING A COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY

A communications strategy is just that — a strategy, a plan. And as such, it doesn't (and shouldn't) remain static. Plans can change based on changing circumstances, new information, and shifting landscapes. A good communications strategy should be one that you consult regularly and adapt as you learn what is working and what may need to be adjusted.

I can work with you and your team to activate your communications strategy and execute on tactics. And I can help you measure how your strategy is working and look for patterns, insights, and opportunities to adjust so that you stay on track towards your desired goals.

EVALUATE

MEASURE,

With the situation better defined, it's time to dig in deep and build your communications strategy.

A solid communications strategy can act as a compass or roadmap to direct you to the ultimate outcomes you're seeking to achieve. That strategy should include:
  • Communications goals and measurable objectives — what are you aiming for and what are the outcomes and proof points of your success?
  • Priority audiences — who are you speaking to? Who do you want to engage with? And what do you know about their motivations and desires, their challenges and pain points, who they listen to and where they get their information?
  • High-level messaging — once you have a clearer sense of your audience, what language will you use to connect with them and inspire them to follow your ideas?
  • Recommended outreach strategies and tactics — what are all the activities, tools, and resources at your fingertips that you can employ to reach and connect with your audiences and encourage them to take the actions you want them to take?

As part of my work with you, I'll provide you with a fully built communications strategy with these components (and then some) that you can share with your internal team and use to guide your organization’s communications efforts.

BUILDING

STRATEGY

  • Reviewing your existing communications, strategic planning documents, and brand expressions
  • Conducting a series of one-on-one interviews with key stakeholders to better understand their experiences with your program area
  • Exploring and analyzing media mentions to see how your work is being reflected to broader audiences
  • Doing a landscape analysis of other organizations in your field and their communications
  • Holding a listening session with key stakeholders and members of your team to surface more insights and test assumptions

The first step in developing any communications plan is understanding your circumstances — the situation before you, the opportunities at hand, and the challenges you're trying to solve for. Research is a vital stage of the process, one that will help to get clear on your overarching communications goals and strategies.

As part of my research and discovery process, I look to immerse myself in your organization or endeavor using one or more of these approaches:
