Connecting Urban Biodiversity was a project that Together Bay Area led between 2021–2024 exploring ways to better integrate urban areas into regional conservation planning and action. The project looked at ways that people living in urban areas, particularly in underserved communities, could gather data on local flora and fauna in their own neighborhoods to inform conservation science and modeling. The project worked at the nexus of science and community engagement to not only support greater understanding of local ecosystems but to engage ordinary people in shaping the story of how their environment contributes to the larger landscape.
The culmination of this effort involved a full report of the project, which I wrote on behalf of the Together Bay Area team and their partners. I then designed the full report into what you see here.
